Dollhouse Materials

Hey everyone, I am excited about starting my new projects in the new year. Two dollhouses, one for a Monster High doll Family and the other for a Barbie family. They are going to be the backdrop of a new show we're creating, a spin-off of Skull Academy. The Monster High doll house will be dark and scary, the barbie house will be pretty and bright. Not sure if I will work on both at the same time, or do one at a time. I guess I'll see how I feel when I start. I am entering both houses in the Undersized Urbanite dollhouse contest due in May 2014. Five months should be plenty of time to finish. If you want to check out their website or join yourself check out the link on the right hand side of this page.

If you want to follow along and make your own dollhouse, follow us here for progress pictures. I will list tell you what you need so you can start collecting materials before January. Christmas is a great time to find items, from your present package...so before you throw it away, look at it and decide if you can use it to build your dollhouse.

For the base boxes I like to buy new ones, you can buy boxes at a moving or packaging company.
Check our yellow page listings for ones near you... the bigger box 24 x 15 x 15 cost be just over $2
and the smaller one 15 x 15 x 15 cost me just over $1.

Collect lots of scrap pieces of cardboard for layering. Layering the cardboard
is one of the most important steps to make it strong and durable. You can
also find cardboard boxes at your grocery store or ask stores if you can
go through their recyclables. The packaging company I go to lets me
go through all their recyclable cardboard and take what I need for free!

Styrofoam...you can find styrofoam in a lot of gift packages.

Gift-wrap paper rolls, perfect for adding support to the dollhouse, plus
one of the houses, I will be creating another spiral staircase...the roll
is perfect for the stairs.

You will also need lots of glue...
paint, scrap paper or gift wrap paper for decorating etc...

If you have any questions, just leave a comment here and I will
reply as soon as I can.

Thank you for visiting and I would like to
welcome our new subscribers
and friends.

Dress Transformation for Rochelle's Big Date

Rochelle's Dress Makeover
Hey everyone, I just finished working on Rochelle's new dress for the big date scene at Lola's Bistro. The new episode of Skull Academy will be premiering the dress but I wanted to give our blog subscribers a sneak peak.

before

Here is the before picture of the dress, I'm not sure if it came
with a bratz or barbie doll, but it was too big for Monster High doll
Rochelle Goyle.

I have very little experience with sewing...so its not perfect. I removed
the old velcro, only one side....

I sewed on another piece of velcro, after folding the piece of
fabric together to make it smaller, I didn't have white so
I used black velcro.

after

I also removed the ribbon belt and made a new one using leather pieces.
The straps are also leather.

I added a little bling to the belt and velcro, its not attached
to the dress so Rochelle can wear it with other outfits.

The back is a bit messy but it still works...I'll have to make sure you only
see the front of the dress on the show :)

I also added more tulle because the dress was just too short.

Do you like Rochelle's dress, tell us what you think

Garage Sale Finds...Miniatures

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

I love spring and summer, not just for the weather but for all the garage sales. Every Saturday I go out for a couple of hours and hope to find little treasures. I found these really cute miniatures at a garage sale a few weeks ago. I'm finally getting around to posting the pics.

I found these all at one garage sale. I love them, especially the barbeque, perfect for the Polly family to enjoy outside grilling their food during the summer.

These miniatures are actually magnets.

The Polly's don't care if they are magnets, as long as they can grill their food.

Below is a blender and cappaccino machine,
perfect for the new dollhouses I'm building.

I also love the gum ball machine, I think it would make a great addition to the lounge at Skull Academy.

I hope to be posting more great garage sale finds. So please subscribe or become a friend. We also enter your email address in our draws and you can win prizes...if you subscribe to all our blogs then we give you 25 more chances of winning.

Please don't forget to vote and rate our site on the 'top 100 doll sites' website, just click the barbie on the right hand side of this page.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you have enjoyed your stay. Please leave a comment below and tell me what your best find was at a garage sale or thrift shop.

How to Make a Doll Bunk Bed with Cardboard & Paper Mache

Hey everyone, I made this awhile ago, but I don't think I ever posted it.

Materials Needed:
cardboard
paper mache mix
paint
fabric
sponges

cut 4 pieces of cardboard 3" x 11"
this will be your headboard and footboard
glue 2 pieces together to make it stronger

cut 4 pieces of cardboard 3" x 9"
this will be your mattress base
at 9" the dolls can only lie in bed when legs bent, if you want
to lie them flat at another 2" so cut 3" x 9" pieces
glue 2 pieces together to make it stronger

on my bunk beds I wanted to add a rectangular hole on the footboard
and headboard, make them any size you want, but before cutting
decide where your mattress bases are going to be glued...and just
cut underneath one and above the other like picture below

 time to paper mache
you can skip this step and cover it with paper or paint

now its ready to paint

glue sponges together to make one long one
cover with fabric
its up to you if you want to glue mattress to base

the ladder
use coffee stir sticks
cut 2 long ones same size
lay them side by side and cut smaller pieces for steps

glue steps onto ladder than paint it

easy peasy :)
